While power is a trait many desire, I wanted to focus on the dark side of power. I named this photoshoot Burning in Heaven, which symbolizes the obscure aspects of religion and materialism. Although power can grant someone whatever they crave, people forget the bridges they burn during the process of becoming powerful. In this photoshoot, I placed candelabras and hispanic “La luz de tu fe” catholic candles all over a 2003 BMW to enlighten the scene. I was inspired by the 14th century poem, The Divine Comedy, which concentrates on the seven deadly sins; lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. All seven deadly sins are potential side effects to holding excessive power. The abundance of fruit, flowers, and candles placed throughout the scene represent gluttony and greed. In addition, red apples were dispersed throughout the scene to symbolize Adam and Eve’s forbidden apple which gave them the power of knowledge. The two models were actors’ Sydney Sweeney and Aidan Alexander who emulated the star-crossed lovers,Romeo and Juliet; whom were imprisoned by the power of love. From afar, power can appear like a mirage filled with riches and opportunities, however, when looking closer, there are misfortunes around every corner.
